I've been really into plaid, cowboy boots, the prep thing, classic white and ruffle front shirts, and cardigans. This is what I came up with yesterday. The dress is a huge school-girl tent dress that can be cinched at the waist (it has a pocket!!), and it was warm enough not to wear tights.

Shhhh Chanel
Everyone's asleep; I have a few minutes alone. And I'm thinking always of a white cardigan matchup with oversized ascot bow and trousers, and high shoes, that I saw in the NY Times (previous post), as a tribute to Coco Chanel. Truly, I've been wearing such a structured white cardigan, over a toga like dress and black loose fitting linen pants, for two days now, inspired by this look.
It's raining a lot, and like I said, there's so much comfort in a nice sweater, ex-specially a cardigan.

Coco Chanel: A Life
I can't wait to see this film and possibly read some bio, as time allows. This Times article was quite the teaser.

Haute Low, The Sweater, More Rightly: The Cardigan--A Versatile Classic
When prim is cozy, or just in need some security (even in 70-degree weather), I always grab my friend, the cardigan. It's warm, it's got buttons to fiddle with, sometimes it's even got pockets. It's cuddly, and it comes off in a dignified manner that doesn't mess with your hair. It complements every wardrobe; dresses up a t-shirt; dumbs down a too hot, possibly intimidating, ensemble, seemingly saying: look, I'm approachable. On a date. At work.
Oh, cardigan!
Oh, cardigan!

Vintage Autumn
We here in bibby's rocketship are thinking about autumn, or fall, and seasons, in general. We seem to have experienced a flattening of seasons, like they are all blurring into maybe, say, I don't know -- TWO? One being Winter (begins on November 26th, ends on March 31), and the second being a Spring-like Autumn (the rest of the time).
All this got us here at bibbysrocket remembering a book, incorrectly, at first as "What season are you?" and incorrectly as published in the late 70s. It was actually Carole Jackson's "Color Me Beautiful," first published in 1980, though we can't seem to locate a picture of that first edition. The great thing about this book is that the author has determined we all have a suitable wardrobe color palette, based on our hair and skin tone. There are four basic color palettes, one for each season, mine being: Fall.
Lauded by Vogue as "the single most important factor in selecting flattering makeup and clothes....gives extensive details of the palettes for each season," we have to admit it's a neat trick for its simplicity and ur-like appeal.

What's Hot in Vintage!
I am excited that one of my items is featured on a blog post about What's Hot in Vintage -- Homecoming Fashion, at My Shopping Connection: http://www.myshoppingconnection.com/articles/whats-hot/vintage-homecoming.php
Evan Picone Snakeskin Stilleto Shoes from Bibby's Rocket - $36
There's nothing quite like a pair of black stilettos to make you feel sexy, and these vintage Evan Picone snakeskin shoes, circa the 1980s, are simply fantastic.
The black snakeskin is accented by a bird-winged swoosh on the stiletto heels (about 3"). These heels are marked a size 9 but might fit 1/2 size smaller.
